This song is off Deer Tick’s album War Elephant. Fun fact, the album was originally released on Feow! Records in 2007, but due to disputes, the group signed with Partisan Records, and War Elephant was re-released in 2008.
SONG OF THE DAY: Death In Vegas -- "Your Loft My Acid"
UK duo Death in Vegas is one of those bands that you know will create an exponentially different sound with every new album. Dare I say Trans-Love Energies (2011) is the best they've produced to date. Ladies and gents, let your ears feast upon this minimalist techno delight. (Before you make any snap decisions, be sure to listen the whole song through.)
SONG OF THE DAY: Kindness -- "House"
This brand new British band has all the cool funky style of the 70's with my favorite chill-wave beats to back it up. If you like this song "House" off their new album World, You Need a Change of Mind (Modular Records 2012), make sure to check out their video "Gee Up" and watch all the way through. They have a tendency to make fun of the indie music industry, and thereby themselves, in all their MVs and the parody is brilliant.
SONG OF THE DAY: Zola Jesus -- "In Your Nature (David Lynch Remix)"
Protean genius David Lynch can't help but be better than everybody at everything. The dark lord of all things strange and sublime, his appreciation for the uncanny power of subtle surreality infuses all of his work, imbuing it--and, by extension, the scenes of middle American banality typically depicted therein--with a kind of ill-begotten, paranoid profundity. While Lynch's remix of Zola Jesus' "In Your Nature" surely doesn't ascend to the magical heights of, say, Blue Velvet, it nevertheless bears traces of his enigmatic aesthetic. Shimmering guitars, plodding drums, and an ominous grinding sound lend a certain hypnotic momentum to Nika Danilova's powerful vocal performance that the original utterly lacks. This is one of those rare instances when the remix wins.
SONG OF THE DAY: Rhye -- "Open"
Straight out of The Odyssey, the singer for Rhye will melt your heart like a Siren. Not much is known about Rhye; they released an EP about a month ago and are keeping their identities covered for now. All that's known is that the group consists of two people who are both in other bands. Until they release more info or music, we're stuck not knowing. But when her voice is this amazing, I'm alright with that.
