Perhaps I have a soft spot for paper cutouts, shadow puppetry, and animal people, but this video from Wye Oak's latest album Civilian has captured my heart.

Wye Oak is based out of Baltimore and is comprised of Jen Wasner and Andy Stack. Wasner sings and plays guitar, and Stack drums and plays bass simultaneously (?!) using his left hand to play the bass line and his right hand and feet to drum. This video features the art of Baltimore artists Katherine Fahey (cutouts) and Michael O’Leary (lighting and cinematography). Civilian was released in March 2011 on Merge Records.

Reign of Terror is Sleigh Bells’ sophomore album, and from what I’ve heard so far, is a little more mellow than their first. Some people may like that, while others (ahem) are a little bummed that they toned it down. Regardless, I’m sure it will be great. This song gives off the same kind of vibe that their old album did: loud.

At long last, The Classical (AKA CC's very own Juliet E. Gordon) has released her eponymous first LP, which is now available for download on bandcamp. A truly impressive work of melancholic beauty and muted grandiosity, this album swells, sinks, ebbs, and flows with a certain smoldering, magmatic momentum. You'll tap your feet. You'll sway your hips. You'll want a drink. It will seep into the forgotten nooks and dusty crannies of your soul, and will probably get stuck in your head too. Produced by the illustrious Maxime Robillard, and featuring guest appearances by several CC musicians, this is more local than the kale in Rastall. You know you want a taste.

George Méliès' silent film, Le Voyage Dans La Lune, was originally released in 1902 as a silent film centered around explorers expedition to the moon. The film has always had a certain charm about it, and it has been picked up recently, featured in Scorsese's Hugo this December. Now 110 years later this film has been restored as a color film, and the ambient electronic group Air has created a soundtrack for the 14 minute film. Air has also turned this soundtrack into a 30 minute long album entitled Le Voyage dans la lune. Check out a clip from the film in the link. Pretty rad.
